ššWeek 6 Waiver Wire Report and Waiting till Sunday to Add Mid-Week Injury Replacements
Key injuries to Saquon Barkley, George Kittle, and Russell Wilson will leave teams searching for replacements. Be sure to get the right ones.
QB
Tua Tagvailoa | MIA
Tua Tagovailoa could be activated as soon as this week and if so could be a great relief arm for those of you who have lost a QB to injury this past week. Heās someone I liked in the preseason after a strong camp and has only played New Englandās tough defense this season. He has some easy matchups the next few weeks too in Jacksonville this week, followed by Atlanta, Buffalo* (tough), and Houston. Even after that he has to play the Jets twice still and the Titans in week 17, many leagueās championships. If youāre in a deeper league and have been let down by injuries or your choice of QB, Tua is worth taking a flyer on if he comes back this week.
Trevor Lawrence | JAX
On the other side from Tua is Trevor Lawrence who has quietly been getting better as the season has progressed. Heās cut down on the turnovers and has been utilized more in the running game, rushing 6+ times in three weeks. He too has a friendly matchup in week 6 against the disappointing Miami defense. Keep in mind that if Lawrence is your replacement for an injury or anything longer than a week, he has a bye himself next week so youāll be back to the waiver wire again.
RB
Darrell Williams | KC
Darrell Williams has a great opportunity in front of him these next few weeks with the injury to CEH. Williams can function both in the ground game and in the passing game so heāll have plenty of opportunities in the talented Chiefs offense moving forward to rack up plenty of touches including some at the goal line. Heās my top add at RB this week.
Khalil Herbert | CHI
Who? Thatās who people who had played Damien Williams were asking every time Herbert got one of his 18 carries on Sunday. Herbert came out of nowhere to not just receive equal touches to Damien Williams but all said and done played 3 more snaps than him. Herbert could be a flash in the pan and Williams still got the lone touchdown and all the targets in the passing game between the two but Herbert could still be a valuable addition, especially in non PPR leagues.
WR
Kadarius Toney | NYG
Kadarius Toney is again at the top of my WR list and is a must add in all leagues and all formats. Heās proven to be a unique weapon the like of which the Giants havenāt had since Odell Beckham Jr. and now I can confidently say that even when Slayton and Sheperd return from injury Toney should not see a drop in usage. Heās too big a playmaker with the ball in his hands for the Giants to not give it to him steadily in each game between now and the end of the season.
TE
Zach Ertz | PHI
Hereās a blast from the past. Ertz has very quietly been making his presence felt again in the city of brotherly love. While he had a disappointing week 5, if you look deeper at the numbers there are some positives. He received 6 targets and for the 3rd week in a row he has been targeted more than Dallas Goedert has. His snap percentage has fluctuated from the low 50s to the mid 60s through the year but if Ertz can see the field more he could be a steal at TE at this point in the season. If youāve lost Kittle or been disappointed at TE thus far, go scoop up Ertz while heās on the rise.
Hunter Henry | NE
When the year began I wasnāt wild about Hunter Henry or Jonnu Smith due to both taking targets and snaps away from each other. While thatās still the case, Henry has lately began to assert himself as the better fantasy play of the two. If you need a replacement for Kittle, Henry can be an option but heāll likely remain touchdown dependent as most TEs will this far down the rankings.
Tip of the Week:
If your roster is full and you have to drop someone you like to waivers to add an injury replacement, wait until Sunday (or the morning of kickoff) to add any last minute injury replacements. The reason for this is simple, donāt leave them available for your league to scoop up before the end of the week. If you like your guy, (but you have no choice but to drop him) chances are someone else does too. Allowing them to scoop up that player to stream or add for the long run is like giving that owner a gift. No freebees in fantasy football. By waiting till the morning of the game, waivers wonāt pass until after the game has gone final and they wonāt be able to be added until the following week. Giving you a chance to get that player back if you like him enough.
