đđWeek 14 Waiver Wire Report and Playoff Alignment
If you've already clinched a playoff spot, start getting ahead of the competition
QB
Taysom Hill | NO
Taysom Hill is maybe the ultimate example of an awful reality QB who is an awesome fantasy QB. He put up over 20 points in his first start of 2021 on a short week despite throwing 4 INTs. His ability to run the ball gives him an incredible floor and his work in the red zone gives you the chance for him to blow up. Heâs got an incredibly fantasy friendly matchup this week against the Jets so if your starting QB is on a bye or youâre desperate for a stream at QB, Hill is your guy.
Tua Tagovailoa | MIA
Tua Tagovailoa will apply mostly to those who are looking to play the long game and have already clinched a playoff berth (more on that later). Since coming back from injury Tua has played well and has one of the most fantasy friendly scheduleâs after the Dolphins week 14 bye. He comes of the bye to face the Jets, then takes on New Orleans, and in what will be the Championship for many, he plays the Titans. Defenses ranked 24th, 27th, and 30th against fantasy QBs. Heâs a must add in all leagues where you only have 1 QB on your roster (unless you cannot afford the space) as an insurance policy and deeper leagues where you might not have the steadiest QB options.
RB
Dontrell Hilliard | TEN
Hilliardâs sample size has been small but itâs been enough for the Titans to cut Adrian Peterson. As I mentioned with him last week, Hilliard has proven he can work in both the ground and passing game in back to back weeks and now has an entire bye week under his belt to be installed as the lead back for the Titans. They have a favorable matchup this week against Jacksonville which should allow the Titans to get up early and run out the clock, increasing Hilliardâs volume. If he has another good week, he could be a sneaky add the rest of the way to that potentially wins you your league. Get him now before itâs one week too late.
WR
Russell Gage | ATL
Russell Gage has been a really sneaky fantasy play for a few weeks now with Calvin Ridley away from football. Outside of the Falcons awful game against Dallas, Gage has been the best pass catcher on the Falcons. He has had 7+ targets in all but 1 game since week 9 and has been getting better as the season has gone along. He doesnât have the friendliest schedule moving forward but waivers are thin this time of year and if he continues to play at this level he could be a big factor down the stretch, especially if Ridley remains at home which seems increasingly likely with each passing week.
So youâve qualified for the playoffs in your fantasy league with a week to go. First off, congratulations. Second, now is the time to get ahead of the curve. Are you trying to add your preferred defense for week 14 off waivers? Why? Unless you REALLY want to win to avoid a potentially brutal fantasy matchup, youâre probably better off adding a defense that can help you in week 15 ahead of everybody else. For example the Dolphins are on a bye this week so it isnât likely their defense will be played by many teams. In fact, many of the 66% of owners who have the Dolphins D might drop them this week. Do you know who the Dolphins play in week 15 off their bye? If you were reading above youâd know it was the Jets. Now is your chance to line up your teams for week 15 and beyond if you have the space to afford it. Got a player you like whoâs on a bye or is hurt or still has another week on the IR? Add him too. His value in week 15 will be a lot more than many of the streamers or backups you have on your bench in week 14. If youâve made it this far in your league congrats, weâre in the long game now. Itâs time to start playing like it.
